A traditional sauna uses an electric stove to heat stones, which warm the surrounding air to high temperatures — up to 200°F in the Solis. Your body heats from the outside in, producing the deep, enveloping sweat of the classic Finnish sauna. Pouring water over the hot stones creates steam, an experience unique to traditional heat.

Löyly (pronounced "LOH-loo") is the Finnish word for the burst of steam and humidity created when water is poured over hot sauna stones. It momentarily intensifies the heat and is the heart of the Finnish sauna ritual — the reason traditional saunas feel alive in a way dry heat can't replicate.

Traditional heat is about intensity and ritual: 200°F air, steam on demand, shorter and more intense sessions. Infrared heats your body directly at around 150°F, making longer, more frequent sessions comfortable. Neither is "better" — they're different experiences. The Solis reaches up to 200°F. At traditional temperatures, most people session for 10–20 minutes per round, often in multiple rounds with cool-down breaks between — the classic pattern is heat, cool, repeat. Add a cold plunge between rounds and you're doing contrast therapy.

Yes — and it's rare. Medical-grade red light is built into the Solis interior, supporting skin health, muscle recovery, and cellular rejuvenation during your session. Most traditional sauna brands offer no red light at all; the Solis gives you the Finnish heat experience without giving up the light therapy benefits of our infrared line.
